The Diggers travelled by bus, prepared to take on the team on the bottom of the ladder that were hungry for their first win.
The Division 2 Diggers did not allow that, with all three rinks winning with an overall score after 63 ends of 77-42.
Rod Reid’s rink had a slow start, with the Diggers being down 3-7 on the 9th end.
Over the next four ends, they added 13 shots, much to the disappointment of Rochester.
They won six more ends to RSL’s four, but the Diggers dug deep and Lyn Hardcastle, Ian McKenzie, Archie Webster and Reid held their ground, finishing on 26-20.
Peter Thommers’ team had an even slower start, and only had one on the card until the sixth end.
Winning the next six, and picking up a couple of threes, brought them into the game, and by the 17th end they hit the front.
Allan Hodges, Danny Stanmore and Chrissy Frampton were put to the test and prevailed with skip Thommers putting the final touch on. Winning by six shots, the final score was 22-16.
The team of Graham Gordon, Miro Peterman, Neville Austin and Niels Hilton (s) were happy to take singles from their opposition until the sixth end when Rochy grabbed a three.
The gloves came off, and the Diggers didn’t allow them another score until the 11th end, which was a single.
With six more ends until Rochy scored a single again, the score was 25-5.
The opposition fell in a heap and RSL added another four to their one, to bring the tally to 29-6.
The Diggers celebrated their 16 point win with sandwiches supplied by the Diggers Club president, who apparently has many hats.
Next week, the RSL Diggers host top placed Kyabram in the Charity Round.
Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond their control, Ky Valley View cannot field a team this weekend and will forfeit the charity round game that we were all looking forward to tomorrow.
Diggers will get 16 points, but agree they would have preferred to play, enjoy the mateship and support the region’s weekend charity round.
