The Tongala RSL Sub-Branch now has a fresh coat of paint to match the enthusiastic and fresh committee for 2025.
Towards the end of 2024, the RSL put the final touches on a much-needed refurbishment, boasting freshly painted walls, gleaming tiles and modern lighting throughout the branch.
The make-over was made possible by the hundreds of hours worth of volunteer work, with a little help from a $8400 boost from the state government through the Veteran Capital Works grant.
Secretary Jenny Reid said the RSL’s interior had been in need of a refresh since the 1970s, and it simply required a discerning eye to recognise the necessity.
“It’s been men all these years using it, but after the women started to come it, we started seeing things they didn’t,” she said.
In awarding the grant to Tongala RSL Sub-Branch, Victorian Minister for Veterans Natalie Suleyman said the Victorian Government was proud to support organisations like Tongala RSL Sub-Branch.
Tongala RSL Sub-Branch president Dale Hateley appreciated the help of many people who helped to finish the project.
“We extend our sincere thanks to the tradespeople and RSL volunteers who committed their expertise and time with professionalism, to ensure the timely completion of this project,” Tongala RSL Sub-Branch president Dale Hateley said.
