This dunk tank event was part of a wider fundraiser for MND research called “Run 4 Rossy”.
“Run 4 Rossy” started as a fundraising effort to help Chris ‘Rossy’ Ross and his family after Chris received an MND diagnosis at age 31.
Chris sadly passed away in August 2023 but left an important legacy behind and a goal of raising over $1 million for MND research.
What started as an effort to help an individual has now turned into a far-reaching cause to raise awareness and funds for the wider MND community.
The dunk tank fundraiser started four years ago as a meat tray raffle for the first two years, before evolving into the dunk tank event for the following two; this year raising over $4000 with the help of the community.
The night was accompanied by a raffle including prizes from the Sporties Barooga, BB’s grazing boxes, the Royal Hotel and various other businesses from the community.
As well as the dunk tank event, the “Run 4 Rossy” itself was held on Sunday at Caulfield Grammar; it included a 5km run/walk, 10km run, 21km run and kids fun run.
Event organiser, Donald Shaw, explained the impact the organisation has been able to have already.
“Chris was determined we continue to raise funds for MND research and patient support; he had the dream to raise over $1 million which they are almost half a million over four years.” He said.
“This is the fifth year of run for Rossy and fourth year raising money for MND which now they have named a grant after Chris Ross with all money raised now going towards the grant.”
There is still time to donate to the cause through the Run 4 Rossy website, as well as a silent auction running until November 2, 2025.
