A new addition to the Rutherglen cycle and sculpture trail was unveiled, commemorating the life of local resident Tony Reeckman, who tragically died in a cycling accident on Rutherglen roads, in 2023.
Anthony James “Tony” Reeckman (1963–2023) was a farmer, photographer, sportsman, and avid cyclist.
Though his life was tragically cut short, his memory lives on in the Rutherglen community.
The memorial, crafted by talented metal sculptor Kane Minouge of #Studio 303, features a functioning bike rack alongside artistic representations of Tony’s road bike and his beloved rescue kelpie, Rosie.
The sculpture is positioned near the Rutherglen Wine Bottle, symbolically for Tony’s return.
The project was spearheaded by Tony’s family and friends as a heartfelt tribute, and has now been donated to the Indigo Shire and the people of Rutherglen.
“We wanted to create something meaningful that reflects Tony’s passions and the joy he brought to everyone around him,” a family spokesperson said.
The installation was made possible with the assistance of Indigo Shire and the Rutherglen Wine Bottle committee.
