The outdoor ceremony was organised by Megan Hunter and presented by school captains Archie McKern and Isla Andrews.
Deniliquin RSL Sub-branch secretary Mick Morrissey was guest speaker, giving an insightful and thought-provoking speech capturing the essence of the ANZAC diggers and how their camaraderie can be replicated today with schoolmates.
Year 6 students were also involved in the ceremony.
Isaac Tubb gave the address, Connor Sampson read an excerpt from the poem ’A Tribute to Anzac Day’, Hugo McGrillen and Fletcher Smith laid the wreath at the base of their flag pole and Ben Macdonald and Ned Wettenhall raised the flags.
Joe Holden gave a touching speech about his great-great-grandfather Gilbert Stanley’s experience in World War I.
Georgie Butcher recited the Ode and Jordyn Brain gave an explanation of The Last Post.
Deniliquin North Public School considered themselves very lucky that their resident trumpet player Claire Wing was able to be there on the day and again deliver a perfect The Last Post and Reveille.
Those at the ceremony said the emotion of the day is clearly added to when Claire plays.
The school was also thankful to students Will Reeves and Lisa-Maree Huckstadt for doing the Welcome to Country.
During the ceremony, the school also made a donation to the Deniliquin Legacy group, which cares for veterans and their families.
Will Turner and Jordyn Brain presented Legacy representatives Richard Davies and Barb Davis with a cheque for $261, raised via the school’s Easter raffle.
They were truly grateful for the help it will give.
