They spent their Saturday making Jason’s course vision come to life, before working together to keep the traps full and the day running smoothly on Sunday.
In all, 89 shooters came along on the opening weekend of duck season to have a shot and test their skills at the event sponsored by Riva Fab in Echuca.
With those in attendance shooting their 75 targets over two rounds, 37 targets in the first round and then 38 in the second, the day ran like clockwork.
There was a great variety of targets thrown during the day, with something for all shooting levels.
Shepparton’s Brian ‘Pud’ Harrison was the high gun winner, shooting 24, 23, 18 (65 out of 75) finishing two targets ahead of Echuca’s Ricky Keirl, close behind him on 63/75 to give him the win in AA grade.
Kyabram’s Terry Northausen won A grade with a score of 55/75, Peter Kerr from Moama took first place honours in B grade with 47/75, and Pinegrove member Scott Nichol took out C grade shooting 48/75.
Ladies winner was local Emma Keirl who finished up on 54/75, Ed Treadwell from Melbourne won veterans with a score of 61/75, juniors went to Echuca Moama member Harry Wilkie on 44/75, and sub junior winner was Kyabram’s William Brooks who had a final score of 53/75.
The club was pleased to see 12 students from Geelong Grammar attend the day.
The boys from Geelong Grammar along with their teacher David have been visiting the club for the March shoot for many years, as they make their way to Barrook Field and Game to shoot the school kids shoot on the Monday.
The boys were put into three squads with some of our members supervising them, and our members were impressed with how well the young men conducted themselves during the day.
Echuca Moama had five junior members attend the Barrook school shoot, representing three schools from the area.
The three girls who went along on the day performed very well, with Izzy Keirl (St Joseph’s Echuca) winning girls high gun (the most targets shot by a female competitor) on the day.
Bianca Norris and Dekoda Dean (both Echuca College) also came home victorious, winning 1st and 3rd respectively in junior girls.
Nicholas Cox and Oscar Mounsey (Moama Anglican Grammar) both attended and shot well, but were edged out of the prizes by some Barham High School locals.
The club is now looking forward to its April shoot, to be held on Easter Sunday.
This day will be a 75 target off-the-gun event, and shooting will begin at 10am.
