A patch of soil in Wyndham St may not look like much now, but by late 2026, it is set to transform into a $60 million apartment hotel in Shepparton.

On Wednesday, September 3, state Member for Shepparton Kim O’Keeffe and Greater Shepparton Deputy Mayor Anthony Brophy joined Veriu Group officials, local developer Terry Sofra and construction partners to officially turn the first sod for Punthill Shepparton.
The 107-apartment hotel will rise at 517 Wyndham St, opposite the Shepparton Art Museum and Victoria Park Lake.
For Mr Sofra, the sod-turning was a “historic moment” — a vision that spans two decades since the Sofra Group first acquired the site finally coming to realisation.
“It’s not just breaking the ground, but breaking new ground on opportunity and growth for Shepparton,” he said.
“We’re proud to be investing in our community and contributing to what will be a key piece of infrastructure for Shepparton to support its future.
“It will provide a significant boost to local tourism, the economy and the broader community.”
Once completed, Punthill Shepparton is expected to employ 100 people.
And they will certainly have their hands full.
The hotel will offer a mix of modern studios and one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments, all equipped with a balcony, kitchen, in-room laundry facilities, Smart TV and high-speed internet.
Facilities also include a gym, secure parking and conference spaces.

For Veriu Group, which manages a portfolio of more than 20 apartment hotels throughout Australia, Punthill Shepparton will be its first regional property in Victoria.
Veriu Group chief executive Zed Sanjana said the decision to select Shepparton was made early because of the region’s potential for long-term growth and the confidence it inspired.
“A growing number of regional sporting events, festivals and cultural activities, as well as existing and proposed attractions, are continuing to deliver a sustained uplift in tourist visitation, further strengthening demand for quality short- and extended-stay accommodation,” he said.
“We know that Punthill Shepparton will fulfil a real need for both corporate and leisure travellers.”
With the promise of ribbon-cutting celebrations in just 16 months, locals won’t have to wait long to see Punthill Shepparton reshape the city skyline.
Construction is under way at the Wyndham St site.
