Victoria’s spring firewood season is officially open, with one collection point available in Campaspe Shire.
The local collection point is at Alfs Dam, south-west of Rushworth on the border of Stratbogie Shire, and can be accessed until November 30.
Local collection points are restricted to the municipality’s residents, and are patrolled by authorised officers who ensure people are adhering to collection rules.
The closest public collection point to Echuca is located near Violet Town, almost two hours away.
Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action director of forest and fire operations Aaron Kennedy said there was a collection limit of two cubic metres of firewood per day, and a 16 cubic metre limit per household each financial year.
“If you are unable to collect firewood for domestic use, you can nominate someone to collect firewood on your behalf,” he said.
“Most people do the right thing, collect wood that is already on the ground, take only what they need and stick to limits and rules.”
