The Jeans for Genes Day event brought students from across the school together to raise funds for the cause.
Organised by Insurance House and CVGT Employment, employees set up bake stalls at the school to exchange treats for a gold coin donation from students and teachers.
Insurance House branch manager Elliot Bowen said the neighbouring businesses often teamed up for community events, and were aiming to raise awareness about genetic disorders in children.

“These genetic diseases could impact their friends or sisters and brothers,” he said.
“From our point of view, it’s something that gets us out of the office to give back and do something in the community.”
In collaboration with the school, the team organised to have local GP and CLRS board president Dr Claire Goodman hold an educational presentation for students.

Years 4, 5 and 6 gathered before recess to learn about the basics behind gene science, and the life-changing work the Children’s Medical Research Institute performs.
Funds raised on Genes for Jeans Day go towards the institute’s research into birth defects, stem cells, gene therapy and cancer.
After the presentation, all students lined up to purchase their charitable treats.
