A Fire Rescue Victoria spokesperson said firefighters were called to the fire at a metal factory on Old Dookie Rd at 11.17am after a 000 caller reported a column of smoke.
Firefighters arrived on scene within five minutes to find a non-structure fire involving a burning pile of steel and scrap metal, about 25m by 20m.
At the height of the fire, 15 fire trucks fought the blaze.
The fire was deemed under control shortly before 1pm.
A community warning was issued for the Grahamvale, Shepparton and Shepparton East areas for smoke in the area.
The advice warned of thick black smoke in the area, but there was no threat to the community.
Machinery was brought in to pull apart the stack of metal that had caught fire.
