St Mary’s and St Joseph’s students were involved in the walk, which co-ordinator Christine Sebire said raised more than $2000.
“While the money will help the work of Caritas it was more about raising awareness for us,” Ms Sebire said.
Caritas is the Catholic Aide and Development Agency that raises funds for a variety of disadvantaged communities across the world.
Among those was the Ukranian population, at the centre of the war that has been raging within its borders.
“Caritas has been on the ground in Ukraine for the last three years. They provide support in all sorts of locations around the world, providing water for communities and providing energy supply options for heating,” Ms Sebire said.
Students carried buckets while they walked to signify what children are expected to do, often having to walk kilometres on end to collect water.
The students also carried bundles of wood, which was to signify the fact children often miss school and other activities because they are required to hunt for firewood to keep their families warm.
“We had prayers for peace during the event, which also included some of the other churches,” Ms Sebire said.
