Undertaken by Metropolis Research in March, Campaspe Shire residents’ satisfaction is relatively unchanged from last year’s results.
In overall satisfaction, the council scored 5.4 out of 10, slightly down from 5.6 in 2024.
This score moves from ‘poor’, 5.5 to 6, to ‘very poor’, 5 to 5.5.
Campaspe ranked four per cent higher than the regional Victorian council average, at five, and six per cent higher than large rural shires at 4.8.
Mayor Daniel Mackrell was pleased to see the council rank higher than fellow councils once again.
“Campaspe continues to outperform the regional Victorian average, with our overall satisfaction score of 5.4 out of 10 sitting four per cent above the regional average and six per cent above the large shire councils’ average,” he said.
“This year’s results show strong improvements in key service areas including youth services, bike paths, drains, services for children, arts and culture, and our local library services.
“These are areas that matter deeply to our community, and we’re proud to see that reflected in the feedback.”
Areas where satisfaction improved included value for money, up by one point; customer service, up three points; and sealed local roads, up two points.
Satisfaction with decision-making in the interest of the community was down by one point, and consultation and engagement saw no change.
Participants are surveyed about 25 facilities and services, with an increase in satisfaction for youth, bike paths, drain maintenance and children’s services.
There was a drop in satisfaction with support services for people with a disability, sports ovals and other outdoor sporting facilities, and support services for seniors.
Road maintenance and repairs was once again identified as the most significant issue for survey participants, at 43 per cent, down from 48 per cent in 2024.
An additional service was screened this year, differentiating between council-managed and VicRoads-managed roads.
Satisfaction with council roads scored six per cent higher than VicRoads.
“We know road maintenance remains a priority for our residents, and we’re pleased to see our roads rated more favourably than major arterial roads,” Cr Mackrell said.
“We recognise that roads remain a key opportunity for improvement.
“This feedback will help inform our next Road Management Plan review, which is currently open for comment.”
Despite a drop from 22 in 2024 to a 15 per cent response rate, Cr Mackrell is grateful for the feedback provided.
“The insights from this survey are invaluable,” he said.
“They help us understand what matters most to our community and guide our efforts to improve service delivery and governance.”
