For some, like Matt Hay, Toby Hore and Jack Lunghusen, playing for the Bombers isn’t just about getting a kick.
It’s a chance to represent the same club where their grandfathers — George Hancock, Gary Hore and Bruce Lunghusen — played in the 1969 premiership.
Now, 50 years after the club broke a 30-year premiership drought and 25 years after the standalone Leitchville merged with Gunbower, those young men will take the chance to not only honour their grandfathers, but all who have represented the town of Leitchville.
When Leitchville-Gunbower run out against old rivals LBU on Saturday, they will carry the spirit of 100 years of football in the town.
The famous maroon and gold will return to the region, as the club wears special edition guernseys, celebrating the anniversaries of their 1969 and 1989 premierships.
Saturday will be an action-packed day, with under-14 football at 8.45am and primary netball.
The under 12s will showcase their skills in front of a big crowd following the senior game.
Following the day of football and netball, the club will hold a gala evening where many special memories and stories will be shared.
The gala evening starts at 6pm.
A memorabilia display will also be presented in the complex for people to enjoy over the weekend.
All of those with a connection to the club are encouraged to come and celebrate this special occasion.
