Bond recently returned from a successful trip to the States where he won a silver medal at the United States Canoe Association National Championships.
The 66-year-old won the medal after finishing second in the OC1 (outrigger canoe, one man) class at the event held on the Alleghney River, beginning just below the Kinzua Dam in Warren, Pennsylvania.
"I was really pleased all my training paid off," Bond said.
"It takes a lot of effort but the medal makes it all worth it."
Bond also raced alongside American Susan Williams in the Mixed C2 (male/female, two-person canoe) class, as the pair finished in a respectable 16th position.
The race saw the pair extend their partnership from last year's event in which they finished third.
"It was great to race with Susan again," Bond said.
"Even though we didn't win a medal the race was quite enjoyable. Hopefully in future we will have some more time to practice to give us a better chance of winning."
During his time abroad, Bond elected to travel the back roads of America discovering several untouched parts of the nation.
His adventures saw saw camp in the Alleghney National Forest, drive to the mountain tops of the Appalachian Mountains and stop in places such as Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania which he didn't realise existed.
