Toolamba Primary has reopened after the flood crisis that forced the school to close.

Acting principal Craig Thompson said the school opened last Wednesday with an emphasis on getting students back to a routine that was as normal as possible.

“That was the idea of getting back as soon as (we could) because we've missed two days rather than a whole week,” Mr Thompson said.

The school was reopened once roads were safe to drive on for parents and buses, with only two families at the school still flooded in at the time of writing.

“We do have two families flooded in right now. And they still haven't returned. So we're looking at ways of supporting them,” Mr Thompson said.

He said most of the teachers remained unaffected by the floods and were able to get to the school.

“Luckily, we had enough teachers that work this side of the river that (could) get here on Wednesday (last week),” he said.

He said the kids had an eye-opening experience throughout the flooding event, with a discussion about their adventures a common theme across all classrooms, as well as a renewed focus on outdoor play.

“They were in play all day, instead of being inside. So there's a bit of a positive from it,” Mr Thompson said.
