State Member for Northern Victoria Rikkie-Lee Tyrrell has called on the Victorian Government to repair the numerous potholes and rutting on a main through road.
In a constituency question to Roads and Road Safety Minister Melissa Horne in state parliament, Mrs Tyrrell spoke about the crumbling condition of many sections of the road between Congupna and Katamatite and the number of complaints she had received from constituents over many months.
“The Katamatite-Shepparton Main Rd is a busy road and is the main thoroughfare between Shepparton and other regional towns such as Cobram and Tocumwal, carrying hundreds of cars, trucks and buses each day,” she said.
“For months, many constituents have contacted my office complaining about the dangerous condition of the road.”
In her contribution, the One Nation MP highlighted the numerous potholes and sections where the road was crumbling, particularly at the intersection with Victoria Rd to the west and Katandra Main Rd to the east.
“Deep rutting has formed at this intersection, which is a hazard to all road users, and it is time the road was fixed properly once and for all,” Mrs Tyrrell said.
Mrs Tyrrell said previous patch-up jobs to fix potholes only lasted a short time due to the heavy vehicles that regularly used the road.
She asked Ms Horne for a time frame for when the Katamatite-Shepparton Main Rd would be repaired properly for the safety of motorists.
