The team needed only one win — a dominant 10-wicket victory against the Murray Valley Cricket Association — from their three matches to qualify for the grand final, finishing their qualifying rounds with a 1-1-1 record, behind the unbeaten Bendigo Cricket Association.
The two teams squared off in the grand final on Sunday.
GMC were troubled early, with the wicket of Blake Evans leaving his league at 1/6.
Moama’s Errol Burns joined set batsman Anthony DePasquale at the crease, and the two combined well for a near 50-run partnership.
Burns starred with the bat for his team, scoring 56 off 126 balls before being dismissed.
His runs would be key for the side, with only DePasquale and lower order batsman Joel Stephens able to make scores in the double digits.
At the close of their 45 overs, GMC were 9/128.
But Burns wasn’t done.
Opening the bowling, Burns took three big wickets, finishing with figures of 3/20 as his team played out a tight contest.
Blake Evans would also claim three wickets for the side.
The game ended up coming down to the wire, with GMC requiring one wicket, Murray Valley requiring nine runs, and just one over of play remaining.
It ended on the first ball of the over, with Evans striking to end the match and give GMC some more silverware.
In the under 14’s shield, GMC struggled through their tournament with two losses and a draw to finish second to bottom in the competition, missing the grand final.
