The global campaign, organised by the United Nations, begins on Tuesday, November 25 and ends on Wednesday, December 10, aligning with international human rights days.
The council has partnered with Echuca Regional Health, the Centre for Non-Violence and Safe + Equal to host the walk in solidarity with victim-survivors, and to stand against family violence in all forms.
Mayor Daniel Mackrell applauded the initiative, and invited the wider community to show its support for those who had experienced family violence locally.
“This project is a reminder that preventing family violence and promoting gender equality requires all of us to stand up and work together,” he said.
“When community members speak out and take action, we send a powerful message that family violence has no place here.
“Together, we can create a culture of respect, equality and safety for everyone.”
From 10am at Hopwood Gardens, event attendees will hear from a guest speaker before walking to Echuca library for activities, displays and a morning tea.
Additionally, the council’s headquarters will be illuminated in orange, the official 16 Days of Activism colour, during the campaign to inspire hope.
