This will be short and sweet, as I am , like you, sick of it.
In reference to the letter from Deputy Mayor Neil Gorey, it is a statement of fact: I have no convictions, no fines imposed, no community corrections order, no prior convictions.
The first, and only time I was in jail was in 1973. It was a four hour stint for drunk and disorderly (wow).
If you were concerned about my comments, why didn't you report it at the time? Why wait until now?
Now the Christmas party.
You say we paid for our own drinks. Yes, true. But, who paid for the hire of the venue?
Who paid for the entertainment? Who paid for the food?
Now, in reference to the "lake in the township of Moulamein".
Has Murray River Council ever purchased water for this lake? Is it used for boating and fishing?
Does the council own two recreation reserves in Moulamein?
Doesn't matter what they're used for, they still cost money, and they are exempt from rates etc.
The abattoirs that Council owns in Barham.
The abattoirs were sold to the council with a cast iron guarantee that not one dollar of ratepayers’ money would be used. Is that still the case?
This is my 25th year as a councillor; 17 years with Murray Shire.
Not once did I walk out of a meeting, nor did I raise my voice.
I am passionate over issues like:
• The catastrophic Murray River Energy ($1.3 million and rising)
• Abattoirs we don’t need (with 20 co-op owners). If it was such a good thing, why didn't these 20 co-op owners build it?
• Art projects which only 1.2 per cent of the population will attend, with staff tied up for weeks.
• We have spent millions in Moulamein and northing in Mathoura.
Why does $1 in every $3 raised in Moama by way of rates go to the former Wakool shire, Mr Gorey?
What was Wakool Shire's financial position, prior to the amalgamation, Mr Gorey?
It has been said that Wakool Shire was on the verge of bankruptcy prior to the amalgamation.
What happened to the $7 million of unallocated funds Murray Shire put aside for a water delivery program, Mr Gorey? Do you recall Moama had no drinking water for an entire week?
It is my sincere hope that this is the end of this character assassination of me.
I think I have made my point, and I have nothing further to say on matter.
Yours etc.
Cr Thomas Weyrich
Murray River Councillor
