The 80km/h gust was recorded by the Bureau of Meteorology at the Shepparton airport at 5.30pm.
A 78km/h gust was recorded at 4.30pm, with gusts of more than 70km/h also recorded at 3.30pm, 4.18pm, 4.21pm and 6pm at Shepparton.
The highest wind speed — excluding gusts — at Shepparton was 54km/h, which was recorded at both 4.18pm and 4.21pm.
The winds had really started at about 10am, with 26km/h recorded in Shepparton, and did not drop below 30km/h until 9.30pm.
While there was a small amount of rain in Shepparton, the official BoM recording was only 0.4mm at Shepparton airport.
The winds brought with them some problems, with trees down and power outages in Mooroopna affecting 2195 homes and businesses, and about 235 others in multiple outages in Shepparton.
The power was also out to 156 Powercor customers in the Bearii and Strathmerton areas, 60 around Koonoomoo and 20 in Girgarre.
Further afield, 1029 customers were left in the dark in Echuca.
