Unity is a precious thing. It is something we shouldn’t waste or treat carelessly but it is something we should grasp a tight hold of and protect.
To me when I think of unity I think of a circle, something which is complete with no breaks in it at all.
If I can stretch this analogy further, we see this in marriage.
What do we give each other when we get married? A ring, a symbol of unity when two come together to become one and be unified.
We see this within society. When we are in unity the world around us works well.
Unity however does not mean we are carbon clones of one another. How boring would that be.
We can express our own individual gifts, abilities and styles and be unified.
Generally, what binds us together and unifies us are the laws of the land.
This helps to keep us safe and gives us a sense of security and a framework of how to live together, but God’s word goes deeper than this.
In John 17:21 Jesus prays for us; the whole chapter is a prayer for us.
In verse 17 He prays that we may have the same mindset as the Father and Himself. That just as the Father and Son are one, we may be also.
This unity, being like-minded with God, goes much deeper then just obeying the laws of the land as it speaks of relationship, firstly with God but also with each other.
God’s mind/His word tells us to love one another, to support and encourage one another, to be just and fair with one another just as God is with us.
Unity is precious, something we need to grab a hold of tightly and protect.
The greatest unity is when we have a relationship with Jesus. When we are like-minded with Him, we will have the best direction and framework to live from.
If you feel you are lonely, unsure of life, feeling unconnected, Jesus is waiting to have a relationship with you. All we need to do is ask Him.
