An L-plater who was caught doing a 29-metre burnout in a suburban street has been fined $500.
Damian Andrew Wilson, 27, pleaded guilty in Echuca Magistrates’ Court to careless driving and driving while suspended.
Prosecutor Constable Matthew Hendry told the court police saw Wilson “lose traction with his rear wheels” and “squeal” his tyres as he turned from Bradley St into Church St in Kyabram on March 25.
Constable Hendry said Wilson, who was on his L-plates, left a 29m rubber mark on the road with his tyres.
His vehicle was impounded for 30 days at the time.
Constable Hendry said, in a separate incident, Wilson was caught driving on a suspended licence in Turnbull Rd, Mooroopna North, on February 24.
His licence had been suspended at the time because of speeding fines.
The court was told Wilson, who has recently moved to Benalla, also had priors for speeding and driving in breach of his permit.
Representing himself in court, Wilson said the careless driving came about because he was “a bit angry on that day and lost it on the corner”.
He said he had become angry about a person in a supermarket car park who wouldn’t move their car.
Wilson also told the court he thought he already had his licence back when he was caught driving suspended in February.
Magistrate Megan Aumair fined Wilson a total of $500.
“A 29m mark on the road . . . it was lucky you didn’t hurt someone or yourself,” she said.
