Alleged stolen ute crashed into cop car

A man and woman have been arrested after a car that was allegedly stolen collided with a police vehicle on Friday, June 24.

Echuca Detective Sergeant Patrick Grelis said the vehicle was reported as stolen after it was parked outside Drover’s Saddlery on Darling St, Echuca, about 3.30pm on Thursday June 23.

The car was observed driving north along the Northern Hwy near Rochester about 6.45am on Friday, he said.

It was followed by police to Echuca, and was intercepted after a small collision on Bowen St a short time later.

A 26-year-old Nanneella man and an Echuca woman, aged 25, were arrested at the scene.

Det Sgt Grelis said the man and the woman were expected to be charged with theft of a motor vehicle.

They appeared at Bendigo Magistrates’ Court on Friday afternoon.
