Trenton Wright, 33, of Echuca pleaded guilty to failing an oral fluid test, refusing to accompany police and driving without displaying P plates, in Echuca Magistrates’ Court.
The court heard after a preliminary oral fluid test indicated the presence of drugs, Wright refused to accompany police for a further test at a police station, on April 10, 2020.
On a second occasion on May 13, 2020, the court heard an evidentiary oral fluid test was positive for methamphetamine and cannabis.
Both times, Wright — as a probationary driver — was not displaying P plates on the vehicle he was driving.
Wright represented himself in court and said he hadn’t used illegal drugs for eight or nine months.
He said he now had a civil construction job that saw him working six days a week, telling Magistrate Megan Aumair, he “finally woke up to [him]self”.
Ms Aumair cancelled Wright’s driver’s licence and disqualified him from driving for a period of two years.
