Rebecca Faye Gass, 40, of Echuca pleaded guilty at Echuca Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, November 16 to speeding and three counts of failing an oral fluid test.
The court heard police detected Gass driving at 133km/h in a 100km/h zone on Leitchville-Kerang Rd on November 27, 2020.
The prosecutor told the court an oral fluid test was positive for methamphetamines, with Gass telling police she had taken ice two days prior and was going to pick up a friend’s daughter.
On April 24 this year, the court heard methamphetamines were again found in Gass’ oral fluid when she was intercepted by police in Echuca, and she told police she had used ice three days earlier.
The third incident was on May 15; the prosecutor said Gass was intercepted driving on Echuca-Kyabram Rd and an oral fluid test returned a positive result for methamphetamines. Gass made no admissions to using the drug.
Gass told Magistrate Sharon McRae she didn’t have an ice issue and hadn’t used in five months.
But Ms McRae said the three drug offences during a six-month period indicated a serious drug issue.
“I’m very concerned that you’re going to continue to use illegal drugs,” she said.
Gass was given a 12-month community corrections order, with 80 hours of community work and treatment and rehabilitation programs.
Her licence was cancelled and she was disqualified from driving for 12 months, and fined $400 for speeding.
