After winning the toss and electing to bowl on Saturday, the home side appeared to have made the wrong decision when South's openers Josh Novoselek (63 runs) and Luke Thompson (37 runs) began strongly.
Their 93-run partnership was brought to an end by Dylan Cuttriss and from there the floodgates opened with South losing their next eight wickets for just 68 runs.
Although there was some late order resistance from the visitors who managed to reach 9/191 from their 80 overs.
Fraser Cleary led the way for the home side with four wickets while, Cuttriss finished the day with three.
In other matches, Tongala remains in the box seat at the halfway point of their top-of-the-table clash with Cooma after they dismissed the ladder leaders for just 98 runs.
At the end of play, Tongala managed to reach 1/78.
Adam Nunn was the star of the show with the ball taking five wickets for the day.
Elsewhere, Kyabram Fire Brigade put Moama's bowlers to the sword as they reached 6/317 at the close of play.
KFB's top three thrived after a week off scoring 221 runs between them.
