Coming on the back of their grand final loss, the Storm have been rocked by the brain injury that will keep Test second-rower Eli Katoa on the sidelines indefinitely while superstar fullback Ryan Papenhuyzen has walked out on his contract.
Melbourne have also lost emerging half Jonah Pezet to Parramatta while they have cut ties with long-time leading prop Nelson Asofa-Solomona.
They also have cashed-up rebel rugby competition R360 reportedly circling their leading playmaker Cameron Munster after he turned down an offer to join incoming NRL side the Perth Bears.
But they have locked in Kangaroos hooker Grant, who was already contracted for 2026.

"I feel incredibly privileged to captain this club and wear the purple jersey in front of our members and fans every week.Â
"We have a great group of players, coaches and staff and a strong leadership team determined to push our club to bigger things in 2026."
Storm boss Justin Rodski said Grant's extension was a "massive boost".
"Harry is not only one of the best players in the NRL, but also an outstanding leader and a tremendous ambassador for Melbourne Storm," Rodski said.
"To have Harry commit to the Club until 2028 is a massive boost, not just for our playing group, but for our entire organisation and our passionate members and fans.
"His determination to keep improving, be a role model for our younger players, and lead Storm toward sustained success makes him the ideal person to drive our club forward."
Grant is currently on leave after the Ashes series in England and he and other international players will return to Melbourne training in early January.
