In the semi-final on Saturday at Cobram, facing the side who held them out of the top four of the competition by just half a game, the Blues came from behind at three-quarter-time to overrun Mulwala and snatch victory by just seven points.
It means Tongala, a team made it clear they would not be a 'one and done finals competitor', will continue onto week three, booking a spot against the other Blues - Numurkah - in next week's preliminary final.
Makenzie Ryan booted four majors, while Cam Ilett was again named best on ground.
In the aftermath of the match, Tonny coach Jordan Souter was more than happy with his team's performance.
"Getting wins in finals is why we play," he said.
"We had everyone do exactly what was asked of them, a real full team effort. We probably didn't have as strong a showing this week as we did against Tungamah, but we were able to get the job done and also find areas we can improve on for next week."
The Blues had prepared for a more free flowing game this week on the open spaces of Cobram's Scott Oval, but the match didn't play out that way.
"There were probably more stoppages in the play than we expected there to be," he said.
"I think on a better day it would probably be a bit more open and the play would flow better, but in the end it was still pretty tough football where we had to get on top of them around the contests.
"We hoped it would open up at stages, but we were able to match their pressure. It probably had an impact on both sides physically how hard we had to be at the ball."
But in typical Tongala style, the senior team wanted to celebrate the success of their club mates as much as their own.
"We were excited with the outcome and the fact we are able to advance to the next week. But we weren't the only ones to have success this weekend, three of our football teams are now into the preliminary finals and we have some of our netball teams in there as well.
"It's special for the whole club, it means our supporters have a few Tonny teams who they are barracking for appearing at this time of the year. We are always looking for the success of the entire club, not just ourselves, so we are really excited to see a lot of our teams stay in the hunt this year."
