On a weekend which saw all the visiting teams come away with maximum points, Moama were spurred to victory by a dominant performance from Jordan McGregor with the bat and ball.
As the home side attempted to wrestle control in the game's first innings, McGregor snared to key middle order wickets in the form of Matt Ohlsen (26) and Callum Clayton (four).
And when he walked to the pitch with Moama at 2-44 he knew he needed to produce - going onto score an unbeaten 52 off 100 balls.
“Jordy is an absolute star and he picked up from his form last year,” captain Jack Russell said.
“We're very fortunate to have him in the side because he is always likely to pick up a couple of wickets.
“And when he has a bat in his hand, there is always a sense of confidence he can deliver for us.
“To get the win means we can put last year behind us and hopefully get some momentum moving forward.
“But next week is another big challenge.”
McGregor was well supported with the ball as Russell and Billy Gallagher picked up two wickets of their own.
It was a positive start to the season for Moama, a side which was controversially removed from last year's finals series due to a rival club fielding an ineligible player.
That resulted in a reduction of points from the match the Moama A grade team had played in, which saw them forced out of the finals despite not having done anything wrong.
For their opponent on Saturday, it was a frustrating afternoon with Darin Ohlsen (29), Jayden Tucker (22) and Matt Ohlsen (26) all unable to capitalise on their strong starts for Tongala.
Elsewhere in the competition, Bamawm-Lockington United suffered a seven wicket loss to Cooma.
Liam Hamilton (42) and James McPhee (40) were the pick of the batsmen while Joseph Hamilton took all three of his side's wickets.
Echuca South endured their own tough start to the season after going down by 68 runs against Kyabram Fire Brigade.
With his side reeling at 2-12, opener Josh Novoselek produced a fighting 51 before being run out by Anthony DePasquale who scored 78 for his side.
Ben Eade, Joel Stephens, Lachlan Harbinson and Luke Thompson all took one wicket apiece.
At Victoria Park, Echuca's scorecard was left in tatters as Rochester powered to a 43-run victory with no batsmen passing 20 runs.
During Rochester's innings, Charlie Hinks, Curtis Townrow and Rylea Jones took two wickets each.
