It was the pay-off after months of preparation by the two brigades as a long summer was finally put behind in a cricket match.
The clash, which was played on Sunday afternoon at Echuca South Recreation Reserve, was held as a fundraiser for the McGrath Foundation.
Event organiser Steph Horton said the day had gone off near perfectly, providing for a perfect day of cricket for both the teams and the community.
“We honestly couldn't have asked for a better day,” she said.
“We had a great turnout, everyone really enjoyed the game and we were able to raise some money for a fantastic cause.”
Horton said while the match had been enjoyable, not much thought had been given to the outcome.
“Melton won,” she said.
“But it wasn't the main thing for the day. We wanted everyone to enjoy themselves when they played and everyone did, that's the most important thing about the day.
“The cricket was pretty good quality, while it wasn't meant to be the most serious clash we did get some decent cricket out of it.”
The clubs are currently tallying the amount raised throughout the game, but Horton said their original goal looks well within sights.
“We set out to raise $2000,” she said.
“From what we've seen early on it looks like we are a real chance of raising that total. We were very lucky that so many people were happy to donate and be a part of the day.
“It's something very special about our community, they constantly want to help others out. No matter what the cause is, people from across the twin towns are always happy to put give what they can to a great cause.
“We can't thank everyone who helped to make the day into what it was possible enough.”
