Thursday, June 3
Eighty played in the stroke event with Bill Bayles having the score of the day to win A grade from big-hitting Greg Norwood and the consistent George O’Sullivan. George Benham won a close B grade event and Gary Edwards won the super-pin.
A grade: 1st Bill Bayles (nett 68); 2nd Greg Norwood (70); 3rd George O’Sullivan (71).
B grade: 1st George Benham (nett 70); 2nd John McPhee (72); 3rd Gordon Jasch (72).
Saturday, June 5
Steven Jones shot three under the card to easily win the Privilege Cup. Pity he probably won’t be using the cup to celebrate any Carlton wins in the near future.
Trevor Mellington, another Blues supporter, had a great day to take out the B grade event and by all reports left a few out there.
Robbie George won C grade while Mike Mangiameli took out the super-pin.
Men A grade: 1st Steven Jones (42 points); 2nd Michael Lizza (38); 3rd Peter Robinson (37).
B grade: 1st Trevor Mellington (39 points); 2nd Rob Kilgour (38); 3rd Steve McCoomb (38).
C grade: 1st Robbie George (38 points); 2nd Tim Nelson (37); 3rd Ashley Bronsgeest (36).
Ladies: 1st Fran Galvin (36 points); 2nd Pam Heywood (35); 3rd Maxine Aitken (34).
Evergreen Fran Galvin won the ladies' event from Pam Heywood and Maxine Aitken. Karen Fitzgerald has been in good form of late and won another super-pin.
Sunday, June 6
Sunday's medley stableford event was won with 41 stableford points by Edward McQuienn in A grade, playing off a daily handicap of eight.
A grade: 1st Edward McQuienn (41); 2nd Greg Norwood (39 c/b); 3rd Sean Burns (39).
B grade: 1st Daniel Scott (39); 2nd Steve Crawford (37 c/b); 3rd Errol Burns (37).
Monday, June 7
A field of 41 women contested the nine-hole stroke maximum score event on Monday and winning the June Stellar award with a nett 32 was Wendy Williams.
A grade: 1st Marie Collins (34); 2nd Diane Watson (35 c/b); 3rd Toni Beck (35 c/b).
B grade: 1st Wendy Williams (32); 2nd Lorraine Harrison (33); 3rd Gillian Crawford (34 c/b).
Gillian Crawford was nearest the pin on the second shot.
Rich River's trainee professional Cooper Gentle was the overall winner in the 18-holes medley stroke max event with a nett 70 in A grade.
A Grade: 1st Cooper Gentle (70); 2nd Rosalie Drill (72); 3rd Steven Malley (73 c/b).
B Grade: 1st Taynan Richardson (72 c/b); 2nd Jan Annakis (72); 3rd Debbie Gniel (72).
Rosalie Drill was nearest the pin.
Tuesday, June 8
The ground staff were overjoyed with the torrential rain on Tuesday, but not so the golfers as only 55 completed their round.
Joel Watson had a cracking day winning the event, chipping in for eagle on the par four 10th hole and then winning the super-pin. If only his beloved Bombers could play a complete game too.
Overall: 1st Joel Watson (36 points); 2nd Evan Lloyd (36); 3rd Des Carey (36).
Wednesday, June 9
The field for Wednesday's stableford event on the west course was depleted due to the cold, wet conditions, down from an initial 96 players to 35.
Debbie Morden turned in a 34-point score to take the top place.
Overall: 1st Debbie Morden (34); 2nd Dianne Stewart (33 c/b); 3rd Gloria Bennett (33).
The countdown went to 30 points.
Nearest the pins were Maree Ciavarella (A), Marie Collins (B) and Deb Bawden rounded out her win by taking the super-pin.
Rich River Veteran Golfers
On June 4, 89 veteran golfers enjoyed a game on the west course followed by lunch in the sports lounge.
Sue Jenkinson won the Ladies A grade event with 34 points on a countback from Lyn Kingston.
Heather Gunston took out third place with 33 points on a countback from Gloria Bennett.
Patricia Sanders won B grade with 35 points also on a countback from Lynne Tucker.
In third place with 34 points was Doss Dinsdale on a countback from Maxine Aitken.
Nearest the pins were won by Heather Gunstone, Dale Haw and Patricia Sanders.
Brian O’Neill took out the Men’s A grade event with 36 points and the best score of the day.
In another countback, Pete James was runner-up with 35 points from Doug Adams.
B grade was won by Robert Thomas with 35 points ahead of Peter Boek with 33 points.
Ian Whately was third with 31 points on a countback from Barry Armstrong, Ray Steele and Neil Moresco.
Nearest the pins were won by Greg Cheong, Terry Goninon, Handel Aubrey and Neil Moresco.
The next event will be played on Friday, July 9.
