At Vic Park, Echuca returns from the bye with a tough assignment on its hands, hosting a Rochester outfit with its tail up following the Tigers’ scalp of reigning premier Kyabram Fire Brigade in round three.
Echuca’s bowling brigade will be tasked with capping a batting order that has scored almost at will in the first few games of the season, led by skipper Sean Williams.
The Tigers’ talisman raised the bat in both games with scores of 81 and 87, and he’s had ample support through Charlie Ryan and stalwart Dylan Cuttriss.
But if the contest hinges on Echuca’s bowling against Rochester’s batting, the home side should be up to the task, with skipper Taylor Beard, Matt Hinks and Rylea Jones spear-heading the bowling attack.
The men in green aren’t light for batting options either. Curtis Townrow blasted 71 against Moama in round two, while Hinks posted a half-century of his own.
Meanwhile, Echuca South will journey across the Murray River to face Moama.
Despite defeat last Saturday, the Swans pieced together an improved performance against Nondies-Cohuna after their heavy defeat at the hands of Rochester the week before.
Through returned all-rounder Mitch McMullan (20 and 2-39), Cameron Hay (29) and Ben Eade (2-13), South threatened a breakthrough with the ball before its score was passed.
The pieces are there — but they will need a complete performance against last season’s semi-finalists.
If Moama welcomes back skipper Jack Russell and the experienced Kirk Teasdale to the side that edged out Cooma by one wicket, the Mowers will be favourites to claim their second win of the season.
BLU hosts Nondies-Cohuna, with the latter claiming their first win in the league, while Kyabram Fire Brigade is aiming to rebound against Cooma.
Next weekend’s fixtures mark the return of two-day cricket, the first time the longer format will be contested since the 2019-20 season.
