Only a handful of behinds could separate the two sides in the first quarter, with both kicking four goals, but the Bears bagging five behinds proved the difference.
The Blues kicked a pair in the second period, along with a trio of behinds, but Tungamah pulled ahead with a five-goal blitz, giving it a 21-point lead at the half-time siren.
Yet, Picola was able to pull itself back into the contest with solid defence, limiting the Bears’ attack to a sole goal and behind while the Blues got busy down the other end, bagging four goals and a behind to trail by three points with a quarter to go.
Unfortunately, a pair of goals for the Blues was not enough to get them over the line, as Tungamah put on a goal-kicking clinic to finish the match, drilling six to topple Picola by 30.
The final score was Picola United 12.4 (76) to Tungamah 16.10 (106).
Lachlan Collins had a field day in front of goals for Picola, kicking six to land himself among the Blues’ best for the round.
Along with Collins, Benjamin Turpin, Cody Haub and Logan Daniel were honoured for their contributions in round 18.
Despite the loss, Picola United will still make the finals, where it will look to claim an elusive PDFL Flag.
PDNL
Tungamah toppled Picola United in their match-up in the final round of the PDNL.
Both teams were strong in the first quarter, notching 10 goals each to remain even at quarter time.
Despite the Blues’ 11 goals in the second period, they were outdone by the Bears, who scored 16 goals to take a five-goal lead at half-time.
While Picola remained consistent in its efforts, notching 10 goals in the third term, Tungamah was a cut above, extending its lead to eight goals heading into the fourth quarter.
In the final frame, Tungamah comfortably took the win, scoring 13 to finish the game with 52 goals.
Meanwhile, Picola could only produce eight in the home stretch to bring its total to 38, losing by 14 in its final game of the season.
Neither team will play finals in 2024 and look to 2025 for another chance at a PDNL flag.
