The Blues were at Katunga Recreation Reserve on Saturday, taking on a Swans side that they last met, and defeated, in round one.
Picola did it by 27 points on that day, but the margins never stretched that far at the weekend.
The first quarter did little to decide where the four points would be headed, as the Blues eked out a one-point lead, both sides kicking two goals.
Rhys Woodland’s side extended that advantage to five at half-time, but did the majority of its work in the minor score column, kicking 1.4 for the period.
Behinds remained the difference at three-quarter time, as Picola found itself more than a goal ahead, despite both teams having kicked four majors.
Katunga would win the fourth term, but the trickle of Blues points was enough for a 6.15 (51) to 7.6 (48) win, breaking a four-game losing streak.
Hayden Brown continued to provide consistent scoring for Picola, kicking two goals, while Sean Solar, Matthew Jorgensen, Cody Haub and Darcy Maloney also slotted majors.
The win guarantees Picola (9-6) a finals berth, heading into the final regular season round.
A big score over winless Mathoura will be expected this weekend, but the Blues could mathematically finish anywhere between fifth and eighth, pending other results and percentage tiebreakers.
Picola will face the Cutters at Mathoura Recreation Reserve on Saturday.
