The round nine Murray Netball League clash was tight throughout with both sides entering the game an impressive 6-2 on the year.
The Blues edged ahead of the Purples in the first quarter taking a one-goal margin into quarter-time.
Tonny extended the advantage to five at the half and would have felt confident of the result after being up 11 at three-quarter time.
However, Nathalia had more to give in the contest surging back towards the Blues in the final term.
Ultimately, Tongala had done enough and came out on top, 48-43.
“(Nathalia) had a few girls back compared to what they did round one, it's always a good hit-out against them,” Tongala coach Grace Hammond said.
“To our credit we stuck to a basic game of netball which was something we spoke about after the loss against Finley last week.
“We just went out, we did our basics hard and tried to play a possession game of netball and just not lose that ball when we had it
“I think in our attack, we were really patient with the ball and (were) able to do that, and then we had some good defensive pressure as well, which we were able to convert on, so that was really nice to see.”
The Blues (7-2) maintain their position, along with Moama and Finley in a group of three chasers behind league-leader Rumbalara (9-0).
Tonny will be favoured this week to overcome Congupna (2-7) which has lost five games in a row.
