After piling on 12 goals in the first quarter, the Blues held off Jerilderie to take a one-goal lead at the first break.
Picola United and the Demons doubled their first frame efforts in the second quarter, with the Blues carrying a two-goal advantage at the major break.
Each of the sides added nine to their respective tallies in an even contest where the final quarter would determine that match, the Blues holding a two-goal lead.
The Demons seemed to want it more, providing effort and energy down the stretch to not just score 11 times but to keep Picola United to seven goals for a quarter, snatching the lead and the game at the death.
The final score was Picola United 40 to Jerilderie 41.
Meanwhile, Mathoura stood little chance against second-placed Dookie United, with the latter well and truly putting the Timbercutters to the sword in round six.
A 17-goal first quarter heralded things to come from Dookie with Mathoura only managing six by the first siren.
Mathoura added six more in the lead up to half-time, but United took matters into its own hands, tallying 21 in the second period to extend its lead to 26.
The carnage didn't stop after half-time as the Timbercutters could add just five to their total, while Dookie pulled even further ahead with 21 more to the score.
Eyeing a chance to boost its differential, Dookie produced another 21-goal quarter down the stretch to increase its score to 80, while Mathoura finished its day with five more goals to end on 24.
