The Blues have blitzed all-comers this season, winning 19 games on the trot to take favouritism heading into Saturday’s grand final against Moama.
Beyond the win-loss ratio however is a group of girls striving to taste the ultimate success with each other, according to Tongala coach Corey Nexhip.
“I think the excitement has been building throughout the year,” Nexhip said.
“We’ve been fortunate enough to have the same group of girls continue to play and grow together since under-13s.
“I think this year a few of our top age girls are really striving for that premiership that’s seemed to evade them for quite some time.
“They’re really excited about what this weekend might bring for them. They’ve showcased some strong netball this season which their results have shown.
“Fingers crossed, we have one more game to get through and continue that high standard of netball.”
Tongala qualified for the big dance courtesy of a 32-goal semi-final win over Deniliquin, and has won twice against the Magpies so far this season.
The Blues’ golden run to date has been built on versatility, a trait that will be put to good use on the big stage.
“We’ve just got so many standout players across every position,” Nexhip said.
“Any combination we put out on to the court can provide. I think that’s a real strength of the team, to have that versatility.”
Tongala will get its opportunity to secure some hard-earned silverware this weekend, and Nexhip is tipping his Blues to overcome any game day nerves.
“I think they’ll be nervous but excited,” he said.
“Deep down I think they know they can get the job done. It will just be a matter of overcoming the early nerves.
“Nerves are good, as long as you can settle them.”
Tongala and Moama will do battle in an intriguing under-17 netball grand final at Moama Recreation Reserve from 9.30am.
