Tongala is off to its best start to a season since 2018, a start that could improve to four straight wins if the side can topple Cobram on Saturday.
The young Blues haven’t opened a season with four wins since that year, and last year’s finalists will be confident of conquering a Tigers side that hasn’t managed to defeat Tongala since 2019.
As it stands, Tongala is one of the form teams in Murray Netball League A-grade, and round three’s win against Moama, a side that had been something of a bogey team for the Blues in recent times, displayed why that was the case.
A late scoring burst in the third term and a steady hand in the fourth, led by Milly Brock and mid-courters Chelsey Wright and Grace Hammond, helped Tongala notch an 11-goal win, with an energetic Blues outlasting Moama in a gritty clash.
Grit and determination have typified Tongala’s approach in 2023, and victory this Saturday would set the side up nicely for a big clash against powerhouse Rumbalara next week.
Last time Tongala met Cobram they were 47-goal winners in round eight last season.
Although it’s been some time since Cobram has toppled the Blues, the Tigers will come into the clash with confidence from two consecutive wins at their back.
Meanwhile, reigning premiers Deniliquin and Mulwala will fight to keep their perfect starts alive in an early-season top-of-the-table clash at the Hardinge St courts in Deni.
Congupna will seek its second win of the season when it faces the winless Tocumwal, while Echuca United is hoping to open its account for 2023 against the might of Rumbalara.
Barooga faces Finley and Nathalia hosts a resurgent Numurkah in the other games of round four.
The clash between Tongala and Cobram will commence at Tongala Recreation Reserve from 1.30pm.
