With all other divisions and rinks completed on the Campaspe Playing Area grand final day on Tuesday, March 10, Geoffrey Coad stepped up to the mat at Rich River Bowls Club for the Bombers.
His side led by one shot, 67-66, but Moama held three on this deciding end, including one sitting right on top of the jack.
With everything to play for, Coad executed flawlessly, knocking Moama’s leading shot into the jack, forcing it left and into Kyabram territory to score one shot and win the title, 68-66.
Before then, the Bombers had come roaring back from a double-digit deficit two thirds of the way through to keep things close and allow the late winner.
The first rink to finish its ends wasn’t as favourable for Ky, Moama skip Trevor Eastwell winning it 27-20 over the Bombers’ Graham Woodcock.
However, Philip Denham’s rink proved huge for Kyabram, his side scoring consistently to come out a 35-9 winner over Colin Hayes’ squad.
Sue Holmes won the remaining rink for the Steamers, 30-13 overall, but it was the critical score from Coad that saw the overall match swing the Bombers’ way.
Kyabram added a midweek pennant championship to the two titles it picked up in the weekend pennant, capping a strong first season in the Campaspe Playing Area.
