LBU continued its run as wooden spooner in round nine, with the Cats unable to get the monkey off their back against formidable White Hills.
Travelling to Lockington Recreation Reserve, the Demons gave the Cats the business in the opening quarter, going 17-4.
LBU managed to double its score in the second period, but it wasn’t without damage down the other end, with White Hills adding 15 to the tally.
A lean seven-goal quarter following half-time tanked any real chance of a Cats comeback as the Demons continued to pile on the misery, the lead now 29.
LBU’s most successful attacking quarter came down the stretch, with the home side finding the net 13 times.
Of course, it wasn’t enough to catch White Hills which was home and hosed with 61 its final score.
The 61-32 loss is sure to sting the Cats, but it was against the second-best side in the competition.
LBU will get another chance to break its losing streak when it faces Huntly at Strauch Reserve in round 10.
Leitchville-Gunbower v North Bendigo
While they weren’t beaten quite as badly as the Cats, the result was still the same for the Bombers against the Bulldogs in round nine.
L-G and North Bendigo have developed something of a rivalry recently in football and netball.
While the 31-56 loss may not have been what the Bombers were after, at least it was competitive, with the Bulldogs sitting in the spot about L-G in the standings.
Yet, it still leaves L-G with two wins on the season as we approach halfway and on the outside looking in on finals.
If they wish to turn their season around in time to make the finals, the Bombers will have to move quickly, with a date against White Hills at home on the cards for round 10.
