Cats overpowered by Saints to remain winless

Lockington-Bamawm United’s A-grade netballers are still looking for their elusive first victory in Heathcote District Netball League after falling to fellow struggler Heathcote in round four.

In what was anticipated to be a close contest between contemporaries, it was anything but in the first quarter, with the Saints darting out to 14 goals in their first effort of the match.

Meanwhile, the Cats could only manage five goals in the opening period.

Both sides added 10 goals to their respective total in the second quarter, with the deficit staying stagnant at nine goals at the major break.

LBU outscored Heathcote in the third term, goaling 11 times, but a steady 10-goal period from the Saints meant they held an eight-goal lead heading into the final stretch.

With an attainable win in sight, the Cats could only add eight more goals in the fourth quarter, with the consistency of Heathcote proving to be the deciding factor.

LBU fell 12 goals shy of jump-starting its season, with the Saints using the match as a way to get their first win of the 2025 campaign.

The final score was LBU 32 to Heathcote 44.

The Cats will have an opportunity to reassess their game plan this week as they have the bye and will look to finally get moving in round six when they face rival and fellow winless side Leitchville-Gunbower in round six.
