Seven races are programmed for Echuca on Tuesday, highlighted by race 6, the three-year-old Moama Bowling Club handicap over 1000m.
The feature race has attracted a strong field of locals, with Echuca trainer Gwenda Johnstone entering three of her charges in the event.
One of those will have Tongala jockey Rose Hammond aboard, as she takes the reins on number 7, Mutsuhito.
Hammond has five rides in total on the day, riding for Johnstone twice and also saddling up for fellow Echuca trainer Rhys Archard in race 4.
Echuca’s Hayley Spitse also has three rides, all for Johnstone, including Tapo in race 6.
Supporters will take in the race that stops the nation on the big screen.
Echuca Racing Club track manager Jarratt Farley said the homegrown appearances added to the appeal for locals heading to the track.
“There will be plenty of local horses on track, Rose Hammond will be in action alongside Hayley Spitse, so we’ll have a couple of local jockeys having a trot around,” he said.
Race one will get the day’s action under way at 1pm, with races 2 and 3 to follow at 1.36pm and 2.12 pm.
Punters will then gather for the running of the big race, with the Melbourne Cup to be shown live on the big screen, before the local action resumes with race four at 3.26pm.
The last race will be out of the barriers by 5.34pm
