Saturday saw Cobram clinch the under-14 Murray Football League flag in emphatic fashion, beating Deniliquin Rams by 21 points at Moama Recreation Reserve.
On a crisp morning on the border, cascades of yellow and black filled the stands to see the Tiger cubs go all the way.
And boy did they oblige.
It was a tense and tight first exchange, with some inaccurate kicking from both ends, seeing Cobram edge 2-1 ahead in the opening minutes.
It took until the 13th minute for the match to have its first major score, as the Rams barrelled one home - but a minute later, Cobram responded.
The score read 8-8 at the opening break, the game evenly-keeled.
However, while the third term is often known as the premiership quarter, Cobram ensured it wouldn’t keep the fans waiting that long to get out of their seats.
The Tigers exploded with a four-goal second exchange to zoom ahead, assuming a 33-16 lead at the half.
A cagey 15 minutes to kick off the third quarter was eventually split by another Cobram major, but Deniliquin kept things interesting with a pair of quick goals to round out the term.
As it happened, the fourth quarter mirrored the first - but that played right into Cobram’s hands as its earlier buffer came in handy, and with another added to the scoreboard for good measure late on, the Tigers were in dreamland.
The final score read 7.10 (52) to 4.7 (31), with Cobram star Samuel DeVincentis named best afield for a whopping performance in the yellow in black, while Derek Muckenthaler, Archie Peters and Hulaif Hefi Hafizi also starred in the victory.
Saturday’s triumph finally snapped an unlucky grand final streak for the young Tigers, too.
Cobram has featured in all four of the past under-14 MFL deciders, and despite falling at the final hurdle in 2023 and 2024, these young cubs guaranteed that 2025 was going to be their year.
