Moama finds itself in equal first position, with a round two slip up against Deniliquin Rams the only blemish on its record book this year.
The Magpies, along with Congupna, sit just one game ahead of a large chasing pack of five 4–2 teams, a pack currently led by Nathalia, which will host Moama on Saturday.
Moama has shown vulnerability at times this season, including last weekend, when the Magpies just got by winless Barooga by five points.
Meanwhile, the Purples have been a consistent force, routinely dispatching weaker opposition and challenging those in the upper to mid-table.
In A-grade netball, the two sides are in opposite situations, with Nathalia the team with a 5-1 record and Moama slightly behind at 4-2.
The Magpies have been competitive with Rumbalara and Tongala, who were before last week the two undefeated sides in the competition, in their only two losses so far proof that they can hold their own against the top-tier sides.
Tongala is a much-improved side this season, coming into round six at 4-2.
The Blues will be hopeful of securing another four points this weekend as they travel to Scott Oval to take on the 3-3 Cobram.
It is worth noting that Tongala has enjoyed a favourable draw thus far, with the Blues four wins coming against the league’s current bottom four; Numurkah, Rumbalara, Barooga, and Echuca United.
As the draw becomes more challenging it will start to become clearer just where Tonny stands this season.
The Tigers come into the game on a three-game losing streak after starting the season with three wins.
The Blues A-grade netball side suffered its first setback of the year last weekend, going down to Rumbalara in a clash of undefeated sides.
Rumba came away convincing winners and the defending champions Tongala will look to regroup this week against Cobram.
The Tigers have managed two wins, three losses and a draw so far this year and, on paper, should pose little challenge to Tongala, which has put away all but the top sides in routine fashion throughout the year.
Echuca United’s quest for a maiden win reaches a crucial junction this weekend, with the Eagles senior football and A-grade netball sides having perhaps their best opportunity in round seven at home against Barooga.
In football, the Hawks are the other side without a win, although they do possess an almost 27-point advantage in overall percentage over the Eagles.
Barooga also comes into the game on the back of a confidence-building performance where they pushed Moama to the limit.
Nevertheless, if Echuca United is to score a win in the near future, this looks to be the best opportunity, with less favourable fixtures against Deni Rams and Moama on the horizon.
In netball, the Eagles draw with Cobram in round three gives them the edge over Barooga on the table as both sides search for their first win.
The Hawks have rarely been in the contest this year and if Echuca United is at its best, it should have the required quality to score a victory.
