Cunnington, along with Moama’s club champion Cass Millerick, will contest the semi-finals of the competition next weekend at Bendigo East Bowling Club.
Echuca women’s champion Pat Schram was still involved in her quarter-final late Sunday afternoon, but had a three-shot lead in the match.
Cunnington is the only Campaspe club champion to have qualified for the semi-finals, due to contest his match against Bendigo region champion Brad Holland next Sunday.
Moama club champion Kevin Anderson withdrew from the tournament in preparation for the start of the Bowls Premier League tournament.
Cunnington earned a place in the second round after North Bendigo’s Daniel Taig forfeited in the opening round, then dominated a 25-10 second round match with Strathfieldsaye’s Geoff Curnick.
In the quarter-finals Cunnington was drawn to play Harcourt club champion Gerard Olsson and walked away with a 25-14 victory.
The final four players in the men’s draw are Cunnington, Holland, Dean Carter and Andrew Brown.
Cunnington will have to beat state champion Holland in order to reach the final of the event.
Deniliquin’s Jamie Shields knocked Tongala club champion Jack Hammond out of the tournament in the opening round, winning 25-15. Shields lost to Bendigo’s Andrew Brown in the second round.
Mathoura’s Anthony Hulm won his opening round 25-14 against Alan Bish from Serpentine. Hulm was beaten by Eaglehawk champion Dean Carter in the second round.
Rich River club champion Stan Barker was unlucky to draw the decorated Holland in the opening round, losing 7-25.
Lockington’s Ken Main lost his second round match with Gary Beckham 8-25 after having a first round bye.
Pat Schram was on her way to the semi-finals with a three-shot lead late in her quarter-final against Golden Square’s Leah Whiffin.
Earlier she beat Michelle Harris from Maryborough, 25-9, following a 25-7 thrashing of Nancy Tate from Marong.
Millerick won her opening round match, 25-21, against Carrol Frost from Harcourt and then beat Pam Hunter (Castlemaine), 25-10.
She won her semi-final 25-14 against Carmel Jansen from White Hills.
Elizabeth Easther from Rich River lost 25-6 in the second round, while Ruth Lennine from Tongala was beaten in the opening round.
