The Eagles travelled to Hardinge Street Oval to do battle with Deniliquin and nothing could differentiate the two sides for much of the first quarter.
Both teams kicked a pair of goals and three minors each to get their day under way in what would forecast a close encounter between the two mid-table contingents.
The Rams took a narrow advantage entering into the major break after both sides matched each other again, kicking a goal each, but Deniliquin got a few extra chances it converted into behinds.
The game began to open up for the hosts in the third term, with the Rams bagging 5.5 during the period but its wayward kicking still preventing a blowout.
Meanwhile, the Eagles countered with 2.1 of their own to close the gap, the disparity now 24 with a big fourth quarter looming.
Both teams struggled to create much in the way of attacking play, with no goals being kicked down the stretch, but the damage had already been done by the Rams the quarter before.
Echuca United fell 17 points shy of victory by the full-time siren, with the Eagles now slumping to a 2-4 record and ninth place standing heading into round seven.
The final score was Echuca United 6.9 (45) to Deniliquin 8.14 (62).
Ryan Stobaus (2) was the only Eagle to kick more than one goal in the contest and was named best-on-ground for his efforts alongside Matthew Lias, Matthew Nettlefold and Liam Gundry.
Echuca United will have a tough battle ahead of it when the team returns to Echuca South Recreation Reserve to face off against Nathalia in round seven.
