Echuca suffered its first defeat in the Goulburn Murray Women’s League, going down to Shepparton United by a goal at Kialla Park Recreation Reserve last Friday.
Playing under lights, the reigning premier fell 2.2 (14) to 3.2 (20) in a tense affair, and while they are now level on wins with Nathalia and Mansfield at 5-1, they still remain on top of the ladder due to superior percentage.
Olivia Dewar was Echuca’s best in the loss, while Kate Dixon (one goal) and co-skipper Paige Baksh, were influential alongside Holly Hughes, co-captain Jacquelyn James and Katie Pollock, while Meaghan Demasi kicked the only other goal.
The Murray Bombers will look to bounce back after the week off when they face 2023 grand finalist Nathalia in what promises to be a gigantic clash at Victoria Park on Sunday, May 26.
