Round five was highlighted, or lowlighted if you were the opposition, by a 13 sets to none thrashing by Echuca 2 over Lockington-Bamawm United.
Although the scoreline was big, LBU wasn’t completely outclassed in most of the sets, but couldn’t find the finishing touches to get a win on the board.
The tie started with Josh Boyd and Shaun Trice picking up 6-4 and 6-2 singles wins respectively.
The men’s doubles were similarly hard-fought and LBU managed 5, 3 and 6 games over the three rubbers, but failed to get over the line.
The women’s doubles had a wider spread of results, as Jenny Townrow and Jessica Cox put together a perfect 8-0 set, although the other three sets all had LBU score four or five games.
LBU’s Darryl Squires and Lois Toohey pushed Boyd and Lucy Higgins to 8-7, the closest result of the tie, but Echuca held firm to complete the shutout 13-100 to 0-50.

Rochester put in a spirited showing against the league leader, but the men’s rubbers proved a defining factor for Echuca.
Echuca 1 won both singles through Eli Kingma and Jack Byrne, 6-3 and 6-1, and also claimed all three men’s doubles sets.
The biggest margin went to Byrne and Steve Rawlings, who claimed an 8-1 win.
Rochester showed more quality in the women’s doubles, winning three of the four contested, including an 8-3 victory to Mandy Dingwall and Cadence Major.
Rochy also took the first of the mixed doubles, with Jacob Greives and Rachael Major picking up the win, but Echuca surged to claim the other three sets by a combined 24 games to 15.
The final score had Echuca 1 on top, 9-85 to 4-64.
A gulf has now solidified between the two Echuca sides in the top two, 1 (5-0) and 2 (4-1) and Rochester (1-4) and LBU (0-5).
The two table halves will face off this week as the two Echuca sides battle and Rochester hosts LBU.
