Hosting Deniliquin at Echuca Bowls Club, the defending champions cruised to a comfortable 14-65 to 2-45 triumph to open its account.
Echuca won two out of three rinks, with Stephen Cunnington’s side tallying a 29-9 victory and Ian Page’s unit emerging victorious in a closer 25-16 affair.
Tim Noar’s side managed to draw level with Jack Hammond’s side.
At Mathoura Bowls Club, Moama also got on the board in round one, notching a decisive 15-78 to 1-53 scalp.
Skip Geoffrey Beattie’s side got the job done early for Moama 34-13 before Rodney Werner’s team scraped through 25-21, with the other rink ending in a 19-19 tie.

Rich River will have to wait until round two to open its account, suffering a 1-50 to 15-57 defeat at the hands of Tongala.
While the Tim Noar-led Rich River side drew with Jack Hammond’s crew 15-15, skips Bradley Tinning and Matthew Liverton got the job done for Tongala in their respective rinks.

In its new competition, Kyabram couldn’t get off to the dream start it was looking for, falling to Stanhope 2-49 to 14-50.
Skip Greg Shilling’s side was the only Kyabram unit able to get a win in round one 21-10, while Stanhope’s Ben Fletcher and Gregory Fitzpatrick ran rampant 20-15 and 20-13, respectively.
