Echuca has proved that the league leader is not infallible in round eight of the Campaspe Playing Area midweek pennant.

Having swept through every team in the first half of the season, the first game after the midway point saw Moama suffer its first defeat, Echuca taking down the Steamers 14-63 to 2-50.

Echuca won two rinks, both by significant margins, headlined by skip Ian Page’s squad, consisting of Robyn Tooley, Pat Schram and Kristy Gilingham, scoring the win 27-13.
James Ferrier also led an Echuca rink win, his side getting up 25-17.
Geoffrey Mulcahy helped his rink to a 24-8 win.

Matt Robertson was able to pull some points back for Moama, 20-11 over Kerryn Evans’ quartet, but Echuca was able to complete the upset and throw the premiership back into doubt as teams turn the corner for the run home.
Stanhope kept its top four place intact, scoring a comfortable 14-66 to 2-36 victory over Rochester.

The host ran up big scores in two rinks at Stanhope Bowls Club.
Jennifer Crilly topped Richard Feuk 26-8, while Peter Myers scored an almost as impressive 24-8 margin over Don Gillies’ squad.

Kaye Barker ensured Rochester would take some points away from the encounter, toppling Neville Cowie 20-16.
There was little between the sides in Mathoura’s match-up against Rich River, but the Timbercutters escaped with the win 13-59 to 3-57.

All three rinks were tight, none more so than between Mathoura’s Glen McConchie and Rich River’s Bev Trengove, the two skips playing out a 22-all draw.
Elizabeth Easther led a 20-18 Rich River win, but Peter Holzer’s 19-15 success saw Mathoura claim overall honours by two shots.

Kyabram scored strongly against Deniliquin, keeping pace with the leaders after a 14-63 to 2-44 win.
Joe Greco led the way, his rink scoring a 24-11 margin, while Mary-Anne Spizer also earned a useful advantage, 24-13.

Deniliquin’s Paul Snare pulled back two competition points 20-15, but Ky had a firm grasp on the overall victory.
Moama still leads the way, with Echuca now within a game of taking top spot.
Kyabram and Stanhope make up the finals places, but Mathoura and Deniliquin are well within striking range.
Lower divisions
In division two, Deniliquin RSL got the best of Echuca 15-61 to 1-49, while Moama defeated Kyabram 14-72 to 2-60.
Rochester won two rinks to one but finished level overall with Rich River, 9-56 to 7-56.
In division three, Elmore claimed victory over Ky Valley View 12-42 to 2-38, Moama won over Deniliquin 14-51 to 0-23 and Echuca got by Rich River 12-41 to 2-37.
Tongala beat Lockington 12-47 to 2-34 and Kyabram edged out Rochester 12-39 to 2-36.
In division four, Roch River and Lockington couldn’t be separated, 7-44 all, while Kyabram did just enough to defeat Moama Green 12-36 to 2-34.
Moama Black defeated Echuca 13-51 to 1-37 and Stanhope beat Tongala 14-41 to 0-31.
